I'm headed to Harman's with the family next weekend.  I'll only be fishing for 1-2 days, so besides the days I want to fish what else do I need?  I've always been confused by the conservation stamp.  Plus is a trout fishing stamp needed if you don't keep fish?  Seems kinda pricey to spend $29 on those 2 stamps for 1-2 days of fishing.

You do understand your license is good for the whole year right? Not just 2 days. You need the conservation stamp and you need a trout stamp because you are fishing for trout whether you keep any or not.

Risenfly is from out of state. You will need: license, conservation stamp, trout stamp, and national forest stamp.

Do you need a NF stamp if you have a lifetime fishing license & lifetime trout stamp?

Risen - You need the trout stamp to "pursue" trout in WV, so you definitely need that one. You'll need the conservation stamp too because it is Required for all licensed non-resident anglers. You would only need the National Forest Stamp if you venture off of Harmon's property onto the adjacent NF property, which is likely and that stamp is only $2.

The way I read fishing license breakdowns on http://www.wvdnr.gov/fishing/license.shtm; the NF Stamp is solely a non-resident stamp now. It is not listed under the Resident licenses. So the answer is No to your question.

Thanks....  I haven't purchased a NF stamp since I bought the lifetime licenses 20+ years ago, but I've always been a little worried that maybe I should have.

Understandably confusing Risen, I am also not from here (originally) and my first few years in WV were pretty confusing, especially before I changed my residency.  You should try buying a hunting license.  That said, Cling hit it on the head.

Good Luck fishing!  Weather may become a factor.  I saw today there may be 3-5 inches of snow in higher elevations.  You may escape that on the east side of the major mountains.

Thanks everyone.  Hoping to get the kids into a few fish, hopefully even on a fly rod.  Looks like the weather should be in the 40's that weekend so we should be good.

By the way....

I'm not only going down there to spend a nice weekend with the family, but Harman's has expanded their fly shop there and you'll be seeing some Risen Fly gear in the shop real soon!  So for all you guys in the area that want to see some stuff in person you'll have a place to go.

Thanks for all the help everyone.  Unfortunately with the 4 little kids who all wanted to fish as well I didn't get much in by myself.  I fished for maybe an hour and landed 1.  I was trying out my new nymph rig but did see some black stones and some fish rising to them as well.

Eric just took over management in the Fall there and is really working hard at improving the property for fishing.  The new shop is about 10 times as big as the corner they had everything in before.  They have the whole upstairs.  He was excited about adding our products and after I dropped everything off he was going to do some more rearranging to fit everything.  He also hinted towards them looking at adding some more property to be able to stock more of the river.  He's a former fly shop owner from PA and seems like he's moving things in the right direction.  My kids had a blast hiking, enjoying the hot tub, fishing and visiting smoke hole caverns.  I'm looking to do some more work with Harman's and may be down there a few other times here and there.  They have a good sample of our products there and I'll be adding some more throughout the year.  Next on my list is finding a good brookie stream close to the cabins to go out to next time I'm there.
