Has anybody been up to Spruce Knob Lake lately? My family and friends are coming up the first week of April for our annual trout fishing trip to beautiful West Virginia and I was wondering if the roads are passable up to the lake. I noticed that the lake hasn’t been stocked in a few weeks. We are camping in Circleville and usually use Sawmill Run Rd to get to the lake but will go around to Whitmer to get there if necessary. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Road along Gandy was clear ! fished it Friday , water was really high but managed 10 brookies & one nice brown. Didn't fish the lake, couple guys said it was REALLY packed, no place to park even ! Good luck !

I can’t speak to Sawmill Run Road, but on Saturday, March 31st, we tried to go up that way from the entrance road at the Pocahontas / Pendleton County Line.  The road started out nice and dry and clear, but after a few miles it turned to a slippery yellow muddy mess, that was eventually snow covered.   Having been stuck up in snow on a mountain in March before, I turned around and back tracked off the mountain.

I have washed my truck 3 times now, and I still can’t get all that yellow sticky mud off.

I've learned my lesson about spring time snow on West Virginia mountain dirt roads the hard way twice. There won't be a third time. It is a lot deeper than it looks. As soon as I see snow I turn around and go back to the motel.
