Just getting some feelers out for if this would work as a fundraiser for my local church's young adult ministry...

Would you participate in an all-tackle, all-species, statewide fishing tournament if there were no in-person component?

It would be set up like a lot of C/R tournaments with codes sent to anglers morning of the tournament, photos taken with the code, but all submissions would be digital and the end of day prizes and wrap-up would be digital as well (Facebook Live perhaps)? Prizes would be mailed.

Would this work, or is the end-of-day get together a necessity?

I would be interested, but it depends on the rules, dates, and cost.

I would be interested as well, and I do not think the end of day get together is always a necessity.  It is a nice formality and time to socialize, but it limits the participants to those who can drive that far at the end of the day.  If it can all be done digitally, then you should have a wider participation from more areas of the state, so long as you get the word out to other areas.

I'll participate and can most likely recruit a few buddies who do not frequent this board.

how would entry be handled?  like a 20 angler minimum and some max? everyone pay via paypal or something? that would probably work fairly well...

More details on measurement criteria??... Maybe a point system??

Muskie between 30 & 40" = 5 points

Muskie between 40 & 50" = 10 points

Muskie 50" and up 20 points

Largemouth Breakdown

Smallmouth Breakdown

Etc...

Something structured like that would be cool... I think you would have to narrow it to "Gamefish Species" or it could get complicated as heck quick...

Would be really neat to link it up with some sort of tournament fishing app so you could have a "real time" feel for the tournament...

Again, at this point I'm just looking to see if there is general interest. I haven't thought through the specifics of everything. I'm not even certain this will be able to happen this year if I decide to put this on.

I appreciate all the feedback on the specifics, it's all really good.

May I suggest that you first start with the young adults in the ministry and have a tourney where folks (maybe even from here?) take them out fishing. They would get a lot out of it, more than just the funds you may raise. Get folks to sponsor each of them, let them go with fishers of various species.

It has been said, "Some people go to church on Sunday and think about fishing. Some people go fishing on Sunday and think about God." m

I appreciate that suggestion Mikie. Given the group demographics, I don't think there would be enough participation for that to be a fundraiser, but I like that idea for a more internal event to promote mentorship/conservation/etc. Thanks!

Thanks for everyone's suggestions and voting. I can see that there is at least moderate interest, so I'm going to continue to do some due diligence to see if this is something I will ultimately pursue. I'll leave the post and poll open in case anyone else has anymore additional feedback, which will be appreciated.

Thank again all!

Would there be limitations on fishing private ponds? I know for trout, I could go to a friends 1/4 acre pond and (probably) win with a few huge hand fed rainbows... seems unfair. Public water only?

Good point. I hadn't thought about that. Obviously pay-to-fish fishing wouldn't be allowed. I'm on the fence about private ponds, as that could encourage more participation, but may tip the competitive balance. I would have to think about that.
