That grouse i missed yesterday got me pumped up.so today i went to a place i usually kill wood(ocks and the fun began. Last year my 12 year old golden got his first "wild" upland bird,a timberdoodle.Today he got his second, a beautiful grouse.
He got the ball rolling right off the bat, jumped this one and it flew and landed in a tree about 80 yards away,we put the sneak on him and got to bout 35 yards and i let him have it with my mossy. It was bouncing like a basketball, but by the 2nd bounce Kozmo had scooped it up and brought it to hand. Todays numbers.jumped 3 grouse-saw 2,jumped one wood(ock but didn't see it.Saw 2 squierrls i passed on and 10 beautiful turkeys.this ones for you shep. God bless shane Post Script-This is only the second "wild"grouse" I have ever killed. The other was 16 years ago when I was 17.Kozmo and I have killed plenty of ringnecked pheasants and quail and some holdover chuckers on shooting preserves, but thats just not quite the same. And we've probably killed around 300 wild ducks and geese and he's hunted up plenty of cripples, but killing a true wv appalachian wild grouse is something special. It's a shame my dog ccan't live as long as humans, this has truly been his best year. It's almost like he is sipping from the cup one more time.I read in an article one time about how hunters and dogs have to get really close to death to truly absord sunsets and mallards cupped up over the decoys to really appreciate them,I mean truly take it all in. This year and last year every hunt with kozmo has been some of the best hunts of my life.He scans the sky for ducks intensely and makes every retrieve as if it were his last.I think God every day for my best friend kozmo and can't bear the thought of losing him.

Reply with quote | #4 | It looks like your dog is both pleased and content in the photo.
I did a lot of pheasant hunting with my grandfather in my youth at a preserve in Carversville, PA. He had two Britanny Spaniels, named Bingo and Bongo.
They would go nuts with anticipation when they saw us carrying shotguns and hearing their cowbells. __________________ aka CT
