Latest round of pics from the camera's out..My buddy got the cameras down yesterday......Lincoln and Boone Counties...Who says deer can't grow big in the rifle counties....
The first is a 14pt with drop tine....What do you think he will score

Now the interesting deer.....Nice buck that has been shot and still alive with arrow in its side. A couple pics over a week long period of him feeding show that the deer isn't hurt at all, at least not right now. I'd imagine infection will get him if he doesn't get the arrow out, or if someone doesn't shoot him. Preferrably the latter if he is going to die though......The pics are cut off because the lower part of the pics were reflecting off a tree and you couldnt see any of the deer below where it's cropped.

Poor guy. Hate to see that but it comes with the territory. Hopefully he can be harvested.

Man, it's amazing what they can deal with. It would be pretty neat if you could find out who made that shot.

First one is a megagiant and will score very high due to the # of points. Actually, the second deer's arrow doesn't look like horrible arrow placement or penetration. I dont think its a shoulder shot due to penetration and I feel that anything behind the shoulder with that much penetration would have killed it. ??????????

I was trying to figure out the shot too. We just moved into this area to hunt this year. We've hunted it in the past, just not the past couple of years. I've never really known anyone to hunt it other than just a random guy or two that walks around after work or something. I guess one of them got lucky. I think it's a shoulder shot. A few years ago I shot a big buck and on its way to the deer, my arrow hit a limb and the arrow went straight into its shoulder. The arrow probably only went in an inch or so, it hit straight bone. My buddy Dave saw it the next morning following a doe, arrow in side. About a month later, the people who live at the bottom of the hill took a picture of the beast out in their yard around 10pm one night, arrow gone, wound almost healed, and deer doing fine. Other than infection setting up, I don't think that arrow is affecting the deer at all. That's just me personally though. Crazy any way you look at it though.

that is interesting.  Yes that deer will probably die this winter with infection if he cannot get that arrow out.  I bet he constantly tries to get it with his mouth or hoof.....

The 1st deer is a deer of a lifetime.  14 points with a drop tine.  In WV!  Awesome buck and one of the best camera pictures that I have seen.

Good luck!  I would be in the woods as much as you have been fishing if I were you!

When my arrow hits the shoulder(bone) it passes through either 1 or both depending on the angle.....

He's a good one for sure, I'd guess the drop tine buck near 150ish, the angle is deceptive for guessing his score.  Maybe even 160 gross, great deer man.

If you hit the shoulder blade this may happen. If you hit the knucke on the shoulder you more than likely will not get through the 1 and you will never get through 2.

I hear a lot of people say they blew through both shoulders, as I have as well, but there are different parts to the shoulder. If you have ever or do ever hit the knuckle you will know.

Anglins, I agree, but the angle must be steeper than what it looks like in the photo.

must have buried up in the bone.
you'll be able to determine whose arrow that is by checking the local hospitals to find out which hunters recently came in sick...

I think, by judging the angle of the arrow, that the shot was a sharp quarting away shot that is not very deep in the deer, it looks high on the body, may be high shoulder shot that is wedged under the shoulder blade, clipped the front of the chest maybe, or stuck in the lower neck, via high shoulder.  Weird, and man those things are tough.

I agree sharp quartering away shot and high.

Also, look at the difference in body size between the two bucks.

I wish I would've had that happen with mine. I've only ever hit shoulder once, and that was the buck I told about in the above post. I shot it with a Hoyt Intec so I know the bow shot hard enough to penetrate, deer are just tough. Trust me, there is something in there that if you hit it, it will make a wierd pop sound and your arrow will not penetrate any at all.

If you look close it looks like a crossbow bolt. There isnt a nock on the arrow.
