Can someone tell me why the Kanawha is rollin' like the friggin' Niagra? It's up like 4-5 feet at Winfield locks and over the walkways. How much rain did you guys get up in the middle part of state?

I feel your pain, the Sutton Tailwater has been booming. It's finally starting to come back down. Hopefully it will be good fishing this weekend! I'm pretty sure the out flow here would also affect the Kanawha. I guess Webster has had some good rain the last week or so. The Sutton gauge has dropped so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I would say that the cause is Summersville Lake. The lake was drawn down to nearly 30 feet below summer pool a couple weeks ago and for some reason the water was held back and the lake filled back up to 15 feet below summer pool this past weekend. The COE is letting the water go now and the lake has dropped more than 10 feet this week, that is a bunch of water for 3 days. It is usually very close to winter pool by now which is 70+feet below summer pool. This constant fluctuation has made fishing tough.

I don't know the drawdown schedule for Sutton but it may be taking place  which would add to the high water in the Kanawha River at Winfield Locks.

That should put the fish right on the bank.

You'd Think, but after 4 hours last night throwing jerkbaits, x-raps, and grubs,  not one bite. I'm chalking it up as a defeat, and the first time out since probably last winter sometime that I haven't actually brought some kind of fish to hand.

I don't like getting skunked either. I just called the S'ville Lake recording and the lake is now 31 feet below summer pool, the Gauley must be roaring. Monday the lake was 16 feet below summer pool.

McFishin'

Remember that the New starts in NC, so a lot of the water could have originated much further away than the "middle of the state".

I know, but the mid-state gauges were rollin' a lot higher than NC's and VA's gauges of the New were. So I figured the Gauley was probably the culprit, I just didn't think we got that much rain this past week/weekend. Oh well. Yay Fall Fishing!

The New at Glen Lynn is pretty full, but not raging, best I can tell from the gauge, but yeah, Yay for Fishing.

Unfortunately, my fall fishing hotspot got whacked....Dunkard

They are all about pretty even today as far as their pecentage from normal. But look at the New from this weekend and Monday and then look at the Gauley. Gauley was pumpin' 10,000cfs Monday. Rafting anyone?

They are lowering the watersheds up north, that's why the gates are open at the Hannibal dam.
