I heard a clip from Stew on the radio this morning.  He indicated that Scooter Berry MAY be reinstated in time for the game Saturday.  He gave a "definitely maybe."

What do you guys think?  Given the disparity in suspension lengths this year, I think 2 games and a short leash is probably a fair suspension for his actions.

Eye Gouging - 2 quarters mandated, player asked to be suspended for an entire game

Lying about "legal" behavior--entire season suspension

Playing on a team with a semi-pro player 2 years ago--20 game suspension (basketball, Denis Kilici, WVU)

Drunk and Belligerent--?? 2 Games??

A couple of thoughts here:

2 separate issues we are dealing with, In house suspension and NCAA imposed.

#1- I do not agree with the Deniz Kilicli NCAA imposed 20 games, he played and was not paid on a Turkish National "B" team. The "A" team sends a kid down who was getting paid, Deniz does not know this, yet he is considered playing with professionals not knowingly. A rule is a rule, but if you do not know the guy was being paid I take issue with that. Come on NCAA get your act together.

#2- I firmly believe team rules need to be in place. The Coach and his staff as well as team captains need to draw a line in the sand and establish rules to follow. With that being said I am not a firm believer in all punishments are the same.

Example: Fighting/Drinking

1-You are at a bar and have to much to drink and punch someone. Causing the police to become involved.

2-You are at a bar having a good time and someone starts trouble with you and you punch them defending yourself. Once again the police are involved, but because you are an athlete it is newsworthy.

Both are examples of drinking and punches being thrown , but the first example should merrit a more severe penalty in my opinion.

Each and every issue should be reviewed and a fair punishment if needed should be handed down. Across the board punishment is not always the proper call, but once again this is only my opinion, and we all know about opinions, everyone has them.

Well...I'd love to see the guy back because Lord knows we need him, but did you guys read the article detailing what happened?

I don't remember details, but I believe he was threatening to fight someone and acting belligerent towards the police.  When the cops threatened to arrest him if he didn't stop and go home, he told them to do it, "He'd be out in an hour"--sort of like I'm a WVU football player--you can't hurt me. After three or four warnings, he was arrested.  Obviously not as bad as a DUI, but come on...if that were me doing that as  a regular student, I likely would have been expelled from school.

Wrong. It would probably not even be noticed by the school, but since he's an athlete it is.  Maybe he would have been put on academic probation or something at best.  I mean this kind of crap has to happen on a nightly basis in the Morgantown bar scene with drunk students.  Heck kids that get caught with alcohol in the dorms, underaged kids, don't get kicked out or anything, just a fine.

Not defending what he did.  He was being an idiot.  It comes down to the fact that he didn't actually get violent with anyone.  He was just being belligerent and loud-mouthed.  Had he actually punched someone (esp the police) it would be different.  He did not resist when being arrested as far as I can understand, although someone with him tried to get tough, but was quickly taken down.

Actually, there IS disciplinary action taken for any student who has an alcohol related violation at WVU.  I was probably exagerating when I said I would have been expelled, but it's ridiculous how athletes who have been given everything put their future at the bottom of a beer bottle.
