Not sure how well you can see these pics but thought I would share. I snapped a few pics of a nice 8 point trying to hook up with this doe.  There was also a smaller 10 point that kept trying to move in but the larger 8 continually put him in his place.  The buck ran this doe right past me to within about 15 yards.  It happened so quick that these were the best pics I got.

It's on in Preston Co.. I had 2 does and a small spike hot on their tails, then 15 mins later 3 small bucks came by on the same path. Also my brother in law had a small 8pt chasing a doe them 30 mins later had a 3pt following on the same trail.

i don't see it being over by gun buck season. They've just lately been hitting it hard and it's more of a search for does than actually breeding of them. Most does are not in estrous right now so there will be plenty of action by gun season. There are some early estrous does and there are some late ones that still get the bucks going even after gun season into muzzleloader. Those bucks are ready to mate as soon as they lose their velvet, its just that the does aren't always ready and they'll fall in and out of estrous all through the winter and the bucks wil be ready anytime they hit it.

I hunted last Friday evening and all day Saturday (VA early muzzloading season less than a 1/4 mile from the Pendleton County line) and saw a lot of does, none acted like they were interested.  Near dusk Saturday evening, I had a good look at 4 or 6 point buck, he was hanging around with a doe who was totally interested in feeding.  We'll see what this weekend brings, besides more temps in the 60s.

I was working around the house yesterday, and had a front row seat to a six point breeding a doe across the road from my house at about 12:30. My wife thought they were fighting, and I had to tell her that is how babies are made. This little buck chased this doe for about ten minutes in the field until she must have got tired and just gave up . I think it's starting to get good right now so get into the woods!
